Grupo Baru was created in the city of Brasilia, in Brazil. Formed by tree Brazilian guitar players, somehow tired of accompanying singers decided to form a group that would present the Brazilian music under a new perspective, unifying music and the movements of Capoeira. In their show the public will not only be able to enjoy the best of the Brazilian stiles, but also to see the connection that exist between the music of the country and the movements of the Brazilian Capoeira and dance. After a time of experimenting with several forms, and different esthetics concepts, and also researching the roots relating to the Brazilian music and dance. The group Baru came up with a hybrid form of perform, where the “capoeiristas” and the musicians interact in a natural way. With music and Capoeira being elements of a new proposed form of “brasilidade” (A third century Brazilian way of being and seeing the world).
Nelson Latif – Acoustic guitar and Cavaquinho.
Born in Sao Paulo, Latif has his background in the stiles of choro and Jazz. Gives the impressive fast melodies that are typical from the choro, and is responsible for the improvisations that give a jazz flavor to the group’s tunes.
Fernando Corbal – Acoustic guitar and harmonic Glasses.
Born in Brasilia. Specialized in playing the harmonic glasses, crystal glasses tuned with water, and playing by wet fingers, Corbal is known by his compositions and his sound tracks for cinema and drama.
Bosco Oliveira – Acoustic and 7 strings guitar.
Born in Brasilia. Oliveira comes from the classical guitar background, and now a teacher in the conservatoire of Brasilia. Oliveira is responsible in the group for the bass’s counterpoints to the melodies and for the firing “flamenco like” solos. A virtuoso on the 7 strings guitar, Oliveira has won several international classical guitar competitions.
